HorrorPitch 2011... |
|
New this year at Stoker Weekend is HorrorPitch 2011, a variation on the traditional pitch session with no appointments and unlimited opportunities to get quality face time with today’s leading genre agents, publishers, and editors. It’s like speed dating for pitches!
HorrorPitch 2011 will take place on Friday, June 17th, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. During those hours, registered convention attendees will come prepared with a completed HorrorPitch Project Summary for the project(s) they are pitching to our guest agents, publishers, and editors. No appointments necessary — you simply wait on line until a spot opens up at the table with the party you want to pitch to.
Now, to keep things streamlined and flowing, there is some basic, “common sense” etiquette we’d ask each writer to adhere to:
· Realize that you’ll have fellow writers right behind you in line waiting for their opportunity to pitch. Keep your pitch to under ten minutes. If the agent, publisher, or editor wishes to discuss it longer, that is their prerogative and the less formal structure of HorrorPitch 2011 will accommodate this. · Only pitch completed or near-completed works. This isn’t “Hey, do you think this is a good idea for a book?” time. HorrorPitch 2011 is for serious writers with viable works to pitch. · Be smart and have available sample chapters, but only provide them if the agent, publisher, or editor requests them. Be even smarter and have access to your electronic files so that you can email any requested files immediately following your pitch session if requested. · To make things easier for our guest agents, publishers, and editors, we’re requiring a completed HorrorPitch Project Summary. You’re responsible for bringing as many copies for as many individuals you plan to pitch to. This form will have your contact information, title and length of the work you’re pitching, synopsis, marketing ideas, and why this particular project may be a good fit for a particular agent, publisher, or editor. This last part requires some homework on your end. Like all queries, know your market and know something about who you’re pitching to!
